CAPE MAY – The City of Cape May kicks off the start of the summer season with a weekend full of events, ranging from the grand opening of the new Cape May Convention Hall, to a special concert from a world renowned artist and orchestra, to a salute to our veterans. Experience Cape May and enjoy these worldly events.

The City of Cape May will proudly unveil the newly construction Cape May Convention Hall on Fri., May 25 at 10 a.m. Built to the Silver LEEDS level with solar panels erected on the roof of the 20,000 sq. ft. beachfront edifice, Convention Hall represents an economic development resource expanding Cape May’s season, and secures the city’s niche as a premier tourist destination.

The new state-of-the-art multi-purpose facility will continue the traditional uses, including roller skating, craft shows, general exhibitions, dances for children, teens, and adults, concerts, theatrical performances, and special events. The new hall also has the capability to host one to three day conventions and meetings, trade shows, and performing arts presentations. The grand opening celebration on Friday morning is free to the public.

The weekend will be highlighted by the gala fundraising performance of Peter Nero and The Philly Pops on the evening of Sat., May 26. The 8 p.m. specially-themed concert offers a unique and intimate setting for the undeniable talents of Peter Nero and The Philly Pops.. The concert is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

On Sun., May 27, at 8 p.m., the Temple University Jazz Quintet will provide the community with a free concert. Distinguished student musicians from the Esther Boyer College of Music and Dance will perform popular straight jazz and swinging jazz compositions, which will appeal to music lovers of all ages and genres. Jazz Pianist, Tim Brey, has recently returned from international competition in Amsterdam, and is featured in the quintet.

Memorial Day, May 28, the City of Cape May will honor veterans at 11 a.m. at Cape May Convention Hall. The ceremony pays tribute to those who committed their lives for the love of our country and people. The United States Coast Guard Training Center, Cape May, Color Guard, Drill Team, and Band will be featured during this patriotic ceremony. The traditional flyover by the United States Coast Guard helicopter and the launching of the Memorial Flower Boat will occur at noon on the adjacent beach.

Each ticket includes admission to the concert plus a complimentary glass of champagne and a commemorative program. Street parking is available around Cape May Convention Hall and a free, round-trip trolley service from the Cape May Elementary School on Lafayette Street will run a continuous loop for audience members.
